Goal Learning Method

0X01 Learning Objectives#

  • Through the study of learning objectives, students in this lesson will be able to successfully formulate learning objectives and design preliminary plans for teaching and learning assessment based on these objectives.

0X02 Importance of Learning Objectives#

  • First Point
Before training, instructors need to have a clear idea of what students will ultimately know or be able to do.

  • Second Point

Instructors need to align course content with learning objectives and design activities that help students achieve the expected outcomes.

  • Third Point

Instructors need to set up tools to assess whether students have successfully achieved the expected outcomes.

0X003 Learning Objectives are Important for Course Planning and Assessing Student Learning.#

  • Student Objectives
  • Institutional Assessment
  • Teaching Planning

0X004 CABD Objective Method#

C-Condition
A-Audience
B-Behavior
D-Degree

  • C-Condition
Create a behavioral condition, which refers to the circumstances or scope in which students/audience complete the specified learning activities, such as "by studying the morphological characteristics of insects...", "through discussions in cooperative learning groups, formulate...", "by designing small experiments independently, experience...", etc.
  • A-Audience
Identify the target learners, such as "students in biology class", "BD in the business department", etc.
  • B-Behavior
What do you want students/audience to be able to do upon meeting the conditions? For example, "identify which are insects from the pictures in the book"; here, the "action verbs" should be observable, actionable, and verifiable, such as "recognize", "state", "describe", "explain", "illustrate", "analyze", "evaluate", "imitate", "participate", "discuss", "communicate", etc.
  • D-Degree
Refers to the level of performance that students/audience achieve regarding the objectives, used to measure the extent of learning outcomes. For example, "90% accuracy", "100% pass rate on tests", etc.

CABD Objective Method - Example#

  • After studying the morphological characteristics of insects, students in biology class can identify which are insects from the pictures in the book with 90% accuracy.

Learning Objectives and Teaching Planning#

For example, by the end of the class, students should be able to state three interesting things about their families.
Consider how to achieve this?
They need to:

  1. Understand the task
  2. Learn the vocabulary they need, if they do not already know it
  3. Hear the pronunciation of any new words and practice pronouncing them
  4. Combine new words with sentences they already know
  5. Practice and say the new sentences (many times)

Learning Objectives and Student Assessment#

  1. Do we need to assess whether students have learned the content we want to teach them?
  2. If we want to assess their learning, we need to assign them tasks to demonstrate it.
  3. In this lesson, you want students to be able to state three interesting things about their families.
For example: you have them do a pair activity or interaction activity; how do they perform? Do they exchange information? How is their pronunciation? Are their grammatical forms correct (we live... / family life...)? Etc.

Reflection?#

  • What is your course?
  • What are your course objectives?
  • What is your course planning?
  • What is your student assessment?
